GO Lions GO!*cheers

For the first time ever our Singapore football team has something to shout about, they trussed Malayisa to get into the finals of the Asean football championship. Next up, is Thailand the defending champions.

I'm not really a BIG soccer fan, but it still gives me some sense of pride knowing that although we don't make it to the World Cup with the big players, the Asean league is still fine. Methinks that the only reason we aren't out there in the big playing field is because of the Asian genes (small built), diet and lifestyle (where the emphasis is study, work, study).

And I think that there's still a common stereotype about girls playing soccer, 'its too rough, only for boys' mentality. American football IS certainly rough, but soccer? nah.

I love Borders! They've got a great selection of books and wonderful stationery! Yushaa and I had a ball of time on Wed going through the selections, after studying at the coffee bean. They had a few offers going on which we couldn't resist. So we bought a couple of books.

Speaking of which, Mr brown recently did an "on my desk items inventory", so I'm going to do an on my makeup dresser inventory....

Cutex nail polish remover
Estee Lauder-Pleasures
Small standing mirror
Flintstones box containing cotton wool
ZA Energex lotion
Body shop's Vitamin E toner
ZA foundation
Gatsby's hair gel
brush
a blue and a black mascara
Shiseido concealer
jars of creams
mini dresser (4 drawer compartments)

Fiz taught me a very fun game:
you start on paper and pen/pencil,
you write a word:
"yesterday"
next person continues with another word beginning with the last letter 'y':
"yarn"
and then "noisy"..."yodel"..."love"..."encompass"..."sick"..."krull?":D

heh...I'm pretty good:)

Our last lecture with Ms Peter was a really memorable one, she left us with a very witty parting words... that will probably be etched for some time...
Ignorance is no defence.
the law may sometimes be unfair but disobey at your own peril.
If you forget everything, remember 2 things: legislation and case law.

She also promised to sing for us after MPP event on Tuesday!
thus she has the obligation to fufil it, as she said, promises made must be kept. hehe.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A couple of days back an article in the Straits Times caught my eye,
it was under the Life section,
written by Jeremy Au Yong
& titled: Just friends? Oh yeah, right
Most men don't think there is such a thing as a platonic relationship; they just don't want women to know that
THERE exists in folklore a concept that is all at once desirable and yet undesirable, quite unlikely and yet so tantalisingly plausible that - to this day - many cannot agree on whether or not it exists.
The believers swear they have concrete proof that it does. Cynics say believers are either being naive, lying to themselves, or trying to serve some ulterior motive.
The concept I am speaking of is, of course, the Truly Platonic Relationship - a relationship between a non-related man and a woman that is born, bred and continues to live off 'friend' energy.
I'm talking about a man and a woman who call each other 'best friends', who share their thoughts and feelings, and yet - this is the important bit - have never had any sexual or romantic interest in each other. Now, most women will wonder why this topic is even up for debate.
Many will say: 'Surely, this kind of thing is possible. Take Jim, I've known him for years. We're just friends. There is NO WAY he has ever ever liked me.'
For men, it's a little more complex.
The male stand - as far as I can tell - is: 'There is no such thing as a completely platonic relationship. You are better off believing in alien abductions... but don't let women know that.'
Like I said, complex.
Men don't actually think that such a relationship is possible. We kind of take it as a fairy tale we would like women to believe.
For any good heterosexual friendship to blossom, guys need a little romantic spark to get it off the ground.
A guy friend once said to me: 'I don't think I could ever become very good friends with a woman I did not want to sleep with.'
While that may be taking male shallowness to another level, it's still in the same building.
To a lesser extent, a man's friendship with a woman needs attraction like a car engine needs a spark plug. Once the friendship is going, it doesn't really matter.
Without it, the friendship is doomed to stall somewhere around the 'friend you meet for dinner once every couple of months' part.
Save for some very, very rare freaks of nature, this is true for all men. And men know it too, even if they may be prepared to agree that every other man in the universe is incapable of such a relationship except themselves.
It's one of those things that is so hard to admit.
Coming out and saying 'Yes, men are incapable of having a meaningful friendship with any woman they are not attracted to' carries with it a host of painful ramifications for men. (Most of which I'm sure I'm about to experience.)
It means admitting to a close female friend that, at some stage through the years you've known her, you held a torch for her.
Even if it was a little torch, a man would rather have his eyes gouged out than have to admit to that.
Probably one of the reasons he's 'just friends' now is because he couldn't get up the courage to tell her in the first place. And since the feeling is gone, darn if he's going to tell her now.
Attached guys face a whole different set of problems. Letting on that platonic relationships don't exist essentially drops a bomb on all the 'innocent' little outings you have had with old female friends.
They can expect squeals of 'I thought you said you didn't like her!' or 'I knew you used to like her!' from the current girlfriend.
No surprise, then, that men will do their very best to have women believe that truly platonic relationships exist. Although, if you look closely, men often let on their true beliefs.
I took a quick survey of my female friends and found rather telling results. Of those who had men in their inner circle of friends, all of them were at least somewhat attractive.
As for those who were less blessed in the looks department, their closest friends consisted exclusively of women.
Another tell-tale sign is how men react to close male friends of their girlfriends.
Most women see nothing wrong with them hanging out with a close guy friend they've known for a long time.
Men see it as a big threat. They know the 'friend' had a thing, or may still have a thing, for his girlfriend. In his mind, he wouldn't mind this 'friend' being involved in a freak cement truck accident.
So there you have it. One facet of men's linear and shallow thinking laid bare. You can be sure, no matter how much some men deny it, that it's true.
Except for me. I'm not that shallow.
-END-
So where does that leave my gay friends and that really puts guys in the a really shallow light. Its kinda funny that a guy would shoot himself in the foot by writing from such an angle. He surely can't conclude that by interviewing a couple of guys.
.whatever.
I have faith that not all guys left in this world are that shallow.
gIf Sizzler had a news-worthy angle or a selling point for customers it would not just be the Salad buffet that Singaporeans love.
wanna know more?
read on...
A catchy headline of that ad would proclaim something along the lines of:
"Come the see the fine balancing act of saucers,
plates and soup bowls of the Sizzler staff"
>insert appropriate pic<
the copy: be entertained endlessly throughout your meal! Feel free to pile your plates and soup bowls on our very talented waiters and waitresses.
*rolls eyes
hehe.
well its true. I don't mean*cough to blow my trumpet or anything.
But it is an art, requiring technique to carry 4-6 layers of plates on your arm, while manouvering around tables and people.
I get a kick too when, little kids go, " Oooh, mama look that girl can carry so many plates. Waaa...."
or even
aunties who go "Are you sure you can manage?", "of course!" is the natural reply and you go on piling on and on endlessly.. Just grin and bear it.
Then in the kitchen your arm burning in agony from the weight is finally relieved of the burden and you can't help but examine the red indents the plates have left on the underside your arm, giving it the fresh look of scars left after multiple suicide attempts on your wrists and forearms.
My favourite dish, I have to say is the Teriyaki Chicken.
It comes on a kidney shaped hotplate which is literally sizzling hot when served. It sizzles a nice aromatic teriyaki sauce (that's sometimes a lil' suffocating and irritating to the nose) and spurts a little(oil, sauce whatelse?). However, it is hot to the touch. See the hotplate is placed atop a regular plate, but no matter its still kinda hot. You can't avoid it or deny it. But the multitude of expressions on customers faces, makes it priceless to serve nonetheless. It ranges from awe and wonder to horrified, its-gonna-spurt - in-my-face look (get it far,far away). heh. Never fails to get their neighbouring tables a look in the teriyaki chicken's direction.
Now, that is a rousing entrance no other any other dish can make.
heh.
All in a day of a waitresses' life!:D
A new year dawns...new resolutions? Apart from vowing to make use of time wisely (learn a new language & dance) and cease procrastinating, I've kinda scrapped the hassle of creating a list.
what a great way to start the new year huh?
Was down with Yushaa, Elina, Amin and Nasri at Vivocity and we had the opportunity to see the Swedish Ship, Götheborg in its full splendor docked right outside the shopping centre by the sea.
All you need now is the Pirates of the Carribean soundtrack to start playing in the background.
Its on the original voyage round the world to visit different ports.
Went a lil' after season shopping at our fav. "Pull and Bear" then stopped for Subway cold cut trio sandwich! And proceeded to try on heels...haha.
