I'll never look at a book the same way again.
You can't blame me for feeling so after visiting Thien Wah Press at Pandan Cresent this afternoon. Think along the lines of book making factory.The first thing that hit me was the smell of the place, it smelt of fresh, NEW books. haha! But after awhile you got sick of it.
It was more of an eye-opener compared to the visit to SPH the last time. The design and content had to be printed on huge 'toilet rolls' of paper which weighed any where between 700kg to 1 ton( 1000kg) Imagine that! After which it'll be cut down to size, sewed together using cotton thread, spine will be slathered with a layer of glue and on goes the spine and book cover. voila! Out comes the book!
Elf was saying you could get a high just sniffing the vat of glue used to coat the spine.hehe! Nearly everything was automated using machines. whoa!
I felt like a little girl in a chocolate factory, in this case- admiring the process of the entire creation of a book!
Thien Wah is an internationally-renowned company that advocates environmentally friendliness and has clients from all over the world, Europe, America, Australia, South Africa, Japan...
We were also given a commemorative souvenir book of the company- it's 70 years old!
CDA presentation was a breeze, too much of a breeze which freaked me out coz' I was the last person to present... I suppose that Ms Nga's also pretty tired by the time she reaches me. ah well *crosses fingers*
