Well the censorship board in SIngapore simply never ceases to amaze me with their uncanny ability in finding fault with everything that gives off wrong messages.
HOLLYWOOD's latest satire on the tobacco industry will be coming out soon. And because the ads show a spoof of Superman- ripping of his jacket with a white-tee revealing a smoking allowed sign, its going to be modified. Yes, its going against the govt's plan of smoke-free Singapore. sheesh.
Hear, hear, there is actually an Act stating: ads that support smoking to be prohibited. If found guilty of publishing an ad supporting use of tobacco you will be fined $10,000 & jailed up to 6 months. ooOOOoo
However, if you're lucky you might see the poster in some theatre displays and magazines.
I mean we're exposed to all sorts of media, we are not so easily swayed by ads like that. Besides, smoking is something that is universal. It's impossible to wipe it out. Banning an ad.+ Creating gorier anti-smoking ads help? I don't know.& highly doubt so.
My solution, let them be. Educate people about the harmful effects yea. If they don't listen its their loss. Sometimes, we should learn the hard way.
